Sign up now for winter sessions (No Comments)

Carlisle Soccer Club’s STAR Academy is about to start up. What’s new for this year’s winter sessions? Larger space and sessions for u8 payers.

In our continued effort to offer a select soccer experience for a recreational soccer price, these sessions will follow an academy approach of soccer training like most clubs offer for their premier teams (Select and Olympic Development Programs). The emphasis of this style of training is on individual player skill development, not team strategy development. In essence, our goal is to help each player become better and by developing a higher skill level and the confidence that comes with it. For the past two years we’ve followed this philosophy for our winter sessions but because of space issues, we didn’t have room to progress the types of activities we did. This year is different. We’ll be in the Middle School Gym, a larger space than the elementary school multi-purpose room, and we’ll offer more time slots. In fact, we’ve grown from two slots in 2006, to three slots last year to four slots for 2008-09.

Players who have participated in these sessions for the past couple of years will find some familiarity in the activities we’re doing, but now we now have the space to progress into match related activities (3v3 or 4v4 soccer) that will allow our kids to practice under game realistic pressure the skills they’ve just learned.

Each entire session is focused on a theme, such as passing or beating an opponent. Progression from fundamental skills to game-like conditions allows us to isolate the topic and build activities around it, adding degrees of difficulty as part of the progression. Each session will be coached by Carlisle Soccer Club coaches, many with D or E certificates or module training, under the direction of Paul Gruber, national D licensed coach and director of coaches for the Club.

Crush hang with the ‘Dawgs (No Comments)

Drake women’s soccer players Liz Woerle (striker) and Rachel Gielau (defender) visited the U12 Carlisle Crush during their Tuesday practice earlier this week. The players showed the girls some fun games and played a scrimmage with the players.  Oh yeah, they hammed it up for this picture, too!

Drake is currently on a 6 game winning streak, beating their last opponent 9-0.  The Crush will be attending a 1:00 pm game on Saturday 11/1 at Cownie Soccer Complex when Drake takes on Illinois State.
