Spring 2010: Week 5

Sunday was the best showing the U12 Wildcat Warriors have had so far this season. The Ankeny girls put them down early with a goal to the lower corner but after that it was all Carlisle. Kelsey McCaughey scored on back-to-back chances to go up 2-1 at halftime.  The second half was much of the same with Nicole Darline putting in two goals, and Madison Williams converting on a long distance shot from outside the 18. Natalie Harter added a textbook penalty kick that was awarded to Carlisle after one of the Ankeny defenders committed a hand ball in the box.  Our passing was the best it has been this season and our defense was very aggressive which helped shut down Ankeny’s power shooters.

Ankeny was a very worthy adversary as they never really threw in the towel. Midway through the second half they came back to tie it up at 4-4 but much like the first half, the hunger of the Wildcat Warriors pushed them on to victory.  When the final whistle blew Carlisle walked off the pitch with a 6-4 win, their first this season

Hannah Mccoy also deserves to be mentioned; she put on an acrobatic and aggressive display in the goal to help keep the Ankeny Rush from ever retaking the lead. At one time she blocked three back-to-back shots, the last of which had her diving from on side of the goal to the other. She ended the game with over 25 saves!

The U13 Girls CRUSH were playing at home this weekend for another dominating game against Northwest. The cold temperatures seemed to slow both teams, but the CRUSH had the advantage. Jenna Castle scored at the six-minute mark off a corner kick from Katy Rick. Jenna received the kick and made a beautiful turn by the near post defender to sneak it by the keeper. The CRUSH continued to pound the skilled Northwest keeper, but were unable to get one by until Mariah Sadler made a pass to wide open Taylor Whipple who would take a volley shot and chip it over the keeper. CRUSH would end the half with a two point lead and taking 19 shots on goal.

The second half Northwest picked up the pace and started to challenge the CRUSH forwards. The CRUSH saw their intensity and also began to pick it up and in turn, continued to dominate possession. The next goal came off a brilliant through pass from Mariah to Maddie Roberts, unmarked in the middle of the field, Maddie made a perfect touch to the open space that set herself up for a break away goal and blasted it by the keeper. The CRUSH defense shut down the Northwest attack and the offense continued to put shots on goal. The last goal was from a crossing pass to the middle of the goal from Jenna, the keeper and CRUSH forward Madison Staecker both attacked the ball and fell to the ground, with the ball loose in front of the goal it was a race to get on their feet. Madison won the race and scored the goal. The game would end in 4-0 victory for the CRUSH.

The CRUSH put on a show for all the fans this Mothers Day weekend putting a total of 31 shots on goal and the defense held Northwest scoreless and allowed only seven shots. Players of the game included Victoria Carra for aggressive defending, Emily Loomis for breaking up the middle attacks and Mariah Sadler for heads up accurate passing. Great game CRUSH!

Despite unusually cold and windy conditions, the U10 Titans won a solid victory in Adel this weekend.Forward Sydney Fortelka scored the Titan’s first goal quickly, giving the Titans an early lead. The Adel Tigers then pressed the ball on offense, where fullback Jocelyn Haack deflected multiple plays with her strong defense. Goalie Emma Brewer also made several saves.

Back on offense, Titan forwards Emma Paddleford and Payton Bumgardner made several shots on goal throughout the half. Payton’s efforts paid off at the end of half. With an assist from Nicole Hintz, Payton put in the the back of the net for Carlisle’s second goal. The second half was a no-score, hard-fought series for the Titans. Forward Kate Snyder had two break-aways denied by Adel’s goalie. Ashlyn Highland was very active as midfielder. And, goalie Emma Paddleford had multiple stops.Titan forwards Mikayla Graham, Payton, and Sydney showed superb teamwork and excellent passing. Strong passing and stalwart defense were the keys to Titan victory this week.

The weather Saturday seemed more like a Fall season game than Spring. The u12 Panthers were dressed in layers and the "Panther Pack" was huddled under blankets. That being said, the girls executed a great game. The team’s practice on communicating and passing are really starting to pay off. There were many beautiful passes that resulted in goals. Kassidi Freel passed one right up the middle to Ceora LeClaire who kicked the ball smack in the middle of the net. Goal! This was the first of Ceora’s three goals for the day. Aricka Lambson’s foot was also on fire Saturday. Aricka scored three goals.Becca Reece executed a great pass sneaking behind the West Des Moines defenders to pass to an open Ali McKibbin (pictured right) who scored for Pink Panthers.

Our goalies for the day, Kennadie Arpy and Amie Berndt sure got a work out. The West Des Moines Cheetas were able to put several up against the goalies but due to great skill, and no fear, Amy and Kennadie were able to stop them all. Amie helped out on defense and Kennadie on offense when they weren’t playing goalie. Panther defenders helped keep the ball away from the Panther goal. In addition, Abbie Molina and Samantha McPhee made several great steals. Defender, Janetta Dawson dribbled the ball up the sidelines several times and passed to the eagerly waiting feet of the offense.

The final score, Carlisle Pink Panthers 7 - West Des Moines Cheetas 0. The Panthers remain undefeated with one tie.

The u10 Thunder Cats showed up in force for their game against and overmatched Soccer South squad. The ‘Cats established their dominance on the first play as Hunter Oppedal took the opening kick off through three defender and scored in the first 30 seconds. Just a minute later, Jonathan Kamerick stood up from tying his shoe at the top of the opponent’s penalty area and found a long pass sent to his right foot. He took a quick shot and Carlisle was up 2-0. Two more goals by Nate Rowray and Hunter off picture perfect crosses, and Carlisle was up 4-0. Despite a number of different players playing different positions, the ‘Cats exploited the opponents’ tendency to pack up in the middle of the field to score 16 goals but they did so on eight assists. Forwards played defense and defenders played forwards, but the Thunder Cats kept passing the ball, often passing up open goals, to set up a teammate to score in a great example of unselfish play that should pay dividends against stiffer competition later this season and in summer soccer tournaments. Goals were scored by Hunter (3), Jonathan (2), Nate (1), Carson True (6), Michael Comstock (4) and Wyatt Kruse (1). Defender Zach Hoagland moved up to attacker before the halftime break and racked up two assists, one in each half, off perfect crosses.
